Janssen-Ortho Inc., Concourse Addition
TWFP and interior designers HOK collaborated with Janssen Ortho Inc. (JOI), a member of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies, to convert former labs and manufacturing areas in the basement level of their facility into office space. Transforming the area from lab use to office use presented significant infrastructure changes, hazardous materials removal, and involved configuring new mechanical and electrical systems to fit within spatial limitations. The project also presented the same daylight challenges as our original renovation within the facility. To bring daylight into the space, we cut a strip window into the foundation wall to allow light to stream in from the courtyard to the office area below, created a slot in the light-filled atrium to visually connect to the space, used indirect lighting, and exposed structures to open the space vertically.
