The Record, new Headquarters
Waterloo Region's most prominent newspaper, The Record, celebrated its 125th anniversary by relocating to the Market Square complex in the heart of Kitchener's downtown.

Transforming an abandoned department store into a functional work environment and vibrant new space involved creating a new front lobby, work stations, conference rooms and meeting spaces for 300 staff members, as well as modifying existing mechanical and electrical systems to meet the paper's 24-hour needs. From commencement to completion, the entire relocation took one year. As project managers, TWFP accomplished the significant move without interrupting the paper's production: we 'unplugged' The Record from their existing location on a Friday afternoon, and ensured they were up and running in their new location by Sunday afternoon to produce the Monday morning paper.

TWFP served as project managers, engineers and construction managers, driving the project's success by coordinating the activities of the landlord and their designers, IT, and interior designers Marshall Cummings.

"We came in on time, on budget, and acquired a new environment better than we had imagined. Enormous credit is due to The Walter Fedy Partnership for its consummate professionalism in achieving this outcome. No relocation of 300-plus employees can occur without a few small bumps, but The Walter Fedy Partnership demonstrated an ability to solve problems with ease, in collaboration with our senior team at the newspaper. The new Record office today is a showcase of great design, a jewel in our community and in the renaissance of the Kitchener downtown. We proudly show it to anyone interested."
