Waterloo Region Catholic Education Centre and Community Centre
Transforming St. Mary's High School into an education centre for the school board and a downtown community centre involved the partnership of three groups - the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, City of Kitchener, and St. Mary's parish. TWFP turned initial reluctance into enthusiasm through a highly-collaborative, consensus-building process involving six neighbourhood associations, a seniors' program, and other community representatives who provided valued input into the facility's programming and came to appreciate each others' challenges. Our unique funding distribution technique ensured essential elements were incorporated into this adaptive reuse project despite limited funds.
