Toronto Centre for the Arts
TWFP's mechanical and electrical engineers worked with Zeidler Roberts Partnership Architects on the state-of-the-art Toronto Centre for the Arts (formerly the Ford Centre for the Performing Arts). The performing arts centre features three performance spaces, a rehearsal hall and an art gallery.
We created an innovative, underfloor-supply HVAC system unique in North America at the time it was designed. We integrated air diffusers into the seating supports, providing a comfortable environment throughout the theatre without sacrificing visual aspects and space finishes. As well, the building controls and plant were designed to meet strict space-comfort criteria when filled, while allowing for energy conservation during unoccupied periods. We received an award for our theatre lighting design.
"We began to look farther afield to get just the kind of firm that was not only technically competent, but would provide personal service by the principals of the firm who could take responsibility for the sophisticated co-ordination issues. The biggest challenge was to satisfy the client's demands for an accelerated project schedule involving completion date guarantees while also respecting the client's fixed budget. We think this challenge has been met
I would not hesitate to recommend them or use them again on another project team."
