Waterloo Regional Police Service
TWFP's architects and engineers applied our in-depth understanding of police operations to the Waterloo Regional Police Service's (WRPS) headquarters, which includes outdoor and indoor training and administration areas, "warehouse-type" storage, a vehicle maintenance and storage garage, a driver training track and a children's traffic safety village. The headquarters successfully expresses a new and innovative philosophy in built form without compromising tried and tested operations.
For WRPS' Division 1 station, we conducted a police operations and facility feasibility study that led to transforming their "military-based" 1959 police facility into a community-based facility. Our design included an addition as well as new heating, ventilation, and electrical systems. To meet the police service's goals, we improved public access and service, increased facilities for female officers, and improved security and processing.
Our team then renovated several operational areas of WRPS' 20-year-old Division 2 police station, including locker rooms, detective areas, specialist crime units and upgraded communications technology, as well as enhancing the public face of the front entrance. Phasing was critical to the success of this project to allow continued police service operations throughout construction.
