Chaplin Family YMCA
TWFP aligned spaces on an axis to allow visual interaction between activities and to create spatial connections that enhance the feeling of community and shared uses at the new Chaplin Family YMCA. Upon entering the facility, patrons have clear visual access to all of the activity spaces, offering a choice of activities, and simplifying way-finding.
The Chaplin Family Y is a showroom of activities, including a swimming pool, teaching pool, aerobics room, weight room, gymnasium and squash/racquetball courts. The success of the new facility is evidenced through the membership numbers, which rose far beyond the Y's goals. The program on which the Y is based also annunciates the current evolution of family leisure and set a new standard for the design of future family YMCAs.
Since the original facility, TWFP has also designed an addition to the YMCA: the Healthy Development Centre, which houses KidsAbility programs, child care and wellness services.
